Background/Consultancy/Advocacy
In 1997, Ibrahim, then 13, was forced to relocate to The
Gambia after rebels invaded Freetown, the capital city of his native
country, Sierra Leone. While escaping, he almost lost his life in
the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The boat in which he was traveling
almost sank with 650 people onboard. After a horrible five-day
ordeal at sea, he arrived in The Gambia where he spent seven years
as a refugee. He lost many family members as a result of the
decade-long civil war.
Ibrahim's experiences makes him determined to make the world
a better place. He is Team Player with Switzerland-based International Platform on
Sports and Development (IPSD), a "platform [that] tries to reunite
information, actors (sport federations, international organizations,
NGOs, the private sector) and people who believe sport can be used
as an instrument to promote social and human development worldwide."
Through this role, Ibrahim was in January 2008 appointed as
Honorary President of
the Cameroon Association of Active
Youths Sport Academy for the Underprivileged (CAMAAYSAP),
an NGO operating in Cameroon and uses sport as a tool for education,
development, health, and peace.
A strong advocate for peace, Ibrahim has spent more than a decade
raising awareness about civil conflicts/wars in Africa and spreading
the message of PEACE and HOPE. He strongly believes in the concept
of Sport for Development and aside from his speaking engagements, he
has written extensively on the importance of sport as a tool for
mutual understanding, global peace, and development. He also does
consulting in a number of areas.
